Canon you Should Read: The Ninth World

I just gotta praise one of the lesser-known works on the wiki; the [[Ninth-World]]. This canon mostly takes place at the underfunded Site-78. Not underfunded to the same degree as Site-333, but they are definitely the underdogs and severely limited by bureaucratic powers ignoring them. As a result they are out of their depth and often need to make compromises when containing anomalies. The canon's namesake comes from a group of anomalous books called The Set of Nine that Site-78 is tasked with gathering and containing. These ten books (I'm aware, go with it for now) are each powerful on their own, but together they can supposedly cause a reality restructuring event. Due to this they are desirable by many groups of interest. Chiefly Valravn, the Volk Division, and the Sin Nombre Cartel. Site-78 is chosen to contain these books due to their low profile. Where this canon really shines is with their characterizations. Even characters that at first seem one-dimensional get a glow-up. Gregory Chudley seems like an aloof slacker, but he's competent and clever when the need arises. Director Leah Richter seems like a stereotypical hardass boss, but she genuinely cares about her employees; a softer side of her she keeps hidden. Even the antagonistic Valravn operatives, while being brutal and trigger happy, are each dealing with their own demons and traumas. They need to look out for each other because the Valravn Corp certainly won't. This allows the SCPs and tales to quickly flip from silly to serious to tragic without it feeling forced or out of place. If you've been wanting to read a lesser-known body of works I highly recommend it. Start with SCP-6419 as that kicks off the Set of Nine series. Be sure to let me know what you think of it and if I've done it justice. submitted by /u/Morganator_2_0 to r/SCP [link] [comments]
