A Mouse ran up the back of my shirt (29M)

E4 Reddit (hantavirus search) · 2026-05-14 · United States

Location: Vermont. 5’10”, 200lbs. I woke up half asleep about 30 minutes ago to my cat being more excitable than usual on my bed, and then I felt something run up my shirt. I reached back and extracted a small mouse from my shirt with my bare hand and proceeded to have to take it in hand upstairs and let it go onto our front porch. It did not bite or scratch me that I can tell (I can’t see or feel anything on my back), but it was prolonged skin contact and I have an open wound on my left hand (although I handled it with my right hand). I washed my hands thoroughly but I am still a bit terrified I could be at risk for hantavirus or similar. Can anyone assuage me on whether I should be worried? Should I wash my bedding and clothes I’m wearing? Should I worry about my cat contracting anything? Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/dark4tr3ss to r/AskDocs [link] [comments]
