When is it mother’s intuition or postpartum anxiety?

E4 Reddit (hantavirus search) · 2026-05-13 · United States

This is more of an opinion question I guess. I’ve been having this really bad feeling lately that my in-laws are going to get my baby sick (or myself!) when they come visit in two days. They live out of state and have to take two flights/layovers to get here, and they’ll be staying for a week. So that’s lot of time for someone in the airport or plane to get them sick, and lots of time to spread it to us. We also live in a touristy area so I know they’re going to want to be out doing stuff the whole time. What’s freaking me out is all the news lately about norovirus and even the Andes hantavirus stuff. I know logically the risk is low, especially with hantavirus, but the news has made it feel way scarier. My husband thinks there’s basically no chance of something like that happening and thinks this is probably anxiety talking. The thing is, I haven’t really dealt with postpartum anxiety before. I had my son 10 months ago and this is kind of the first time I’ve felt this intense need to keep him close and protect him from getting sick. I suddenly don’t even want to leave his side. How do you tell the difference between mom intuition and just anxiety spiraling? Has anyone else gone through this? submitted by /u/marshmallow198 to r/beyondthebump [link] [comments]
